What to specify before requesting a quote

Choose the format

Describe whether you need compressed blocks, growbags or another format. Include dimensions, unit weight, required expanded volume and intended substrate blend.

Define the treatment

State whether washed or buffered material is required. Request evidence of the proposed treatment and confirm the specification with your grower or technical adviser.

Make EC results comparable

Provide your target EC and pH, units and test method. Ask for the extraction ratio and test conditions alongside results; an EC number alone is not a complete specification.

Your enquiry checklist

Include these details in the notes field of the enquiry form:

Crop, growing stage, growing system and destination country.
Required format, dimensions, pith/chip mix and expansion test basis.
Washed or buffered requirement; target EC and pH with measurement method.
Trial quantity, expected repeat volume, packing and labelling requirements.
Request the technical data sheet, recent lot COA and a sample evaluation before approval.

Before you approve a product

Is washed cocopeat the same as buffered cocopeat?

Treat washing and buffering as separate requirements. Ask which process is proposed and request supporting results before accepting a grade.

Can I approve a grade from the guide alone?

Use the guide to prepare your questions. Approve the proposed material against an agreed specification, supporting test data and your own sample or application evaluation.
